[Spoiler Review] Anime 'Jujutsu Kaisen' Season 3 Episode 50 (Episode 3) "About the Culling Game"
Aired January 15, 2026. This episode is a massive information dump where long-standing mysteries are unraveled all at once, while the shape of an overwhelmingly enormous and cruel "next enemy" comes into focus. It stands as one of the most revelatory episodes in the entire series.
Overall Impression: The Commanding Presence of Ryoko Sakakibara's Master Tengen
Episode 50, "About the Culling Game." The star of this episode is undoubtedly Master Tengen, the omniscient sorcerer residing in the Tombs of the Star Corridor. With Ryoko Sakakibara cast in the role, the gravitas of a transcendent being who has lived for thousands of years is utterly convincing, making every word of the complex rule explanations impossible to miss.
In terms of story, the episode presents Kenjaku's true objective: the "assimilation of humanity with Tengen," a revelation of staggering and despairing scale. Yet at the same time, a specific "key" to rescuing Satoru Gojo is revealed, offering a ray of light in the darkness. Despite the heavy information load, MAPPA's stylish infographic-style visual direction helps viewers process the situation alongside Yuji and the others. A masterful composition.
Episode 50
The story begins as Yuji and the others enter the Tombs of the Star Corridor, the innermost sanctum of the barrier, accompanied by Yuki Tsukumo. The Tengen they encounter has transformed into something far removed from human, almost resembling a cursed spirit.
- Kenjaku's identity: A sorcerer who has lived for a thousand years, known in history as the notorious Noritoshi Kamo
- Objective: To forcibly evolve humanity by assimilating all people in Japan with Tengen
- The Culling Game's role: An unprecedented jujutsu terror attack designed as a "conditioning" process for the assimilation
The "Culling Game" is an absurdly unreasonable game. Forced to kill each other to earn points, Yuji's expression as he steels himself with "I have to be the one to do this" is heartbreaking to watch.
On the hopeful side, critical information emerges: the existence of the "Prison Realm: Back Gate," the reverse side of the Prison Realm where Gojo is sealed. And the announcement of an angel-like sorcerer named "Angel (Hana Kurusu)" who can nullify any cursed technique and break seals! With a clear goal of rescuing Gojo-sensei now in sight, the story accelerates dramatically.
In the final scene, Choso and Yuki decide to stay behind as Tengen's guards. The quiet farewell between Yuji and Choso, with few words exchanged, is filled with their own unique form of "brotherly bond." I found myself unexpectedly moved to tears.
